Information for youth Sailing School for 2019
If your kids are new to sailing, we would recommend that they try one of our "Sailing Camps". They are designed to be fun, relaxed classes where the kids have a great first experience sailing. Each of the classes will be primarily taught in X boats and possibly a day in Optimist Dinghys. These boats provide great platforms for teaching young sailors the basics of sailing. Each X boat will have an instructor onboard with two to three students. This will help students gain confidence in their skills while preparing them to continue on with another sailing class or a crewing position. Class size is limited to 10 students. Sailboats are provided. All you need to bring is a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket. CLYC membership is not required for these classes. (Recommended Age 6-15)

Beginner Optis class is designed for first year or second year sailors to get them comfortable on the water. This is a fun, enjoyable class where the students are taught in Optimist Dinghys. They will be sailing primarily with one other student with the goal of getting them comfortable sailing on their own. This class is designed to help your child learn sailing safety, boat parts and rigging, along with terminology. They will learn how to steer, tack, and navigate the wind. The goal is to enable them to get sailing around singlehanded and introduce them to a race course through M and M race nights that are held on Tuesday evenings. Parents are required to stay on race nights. Limited boats are available for use on race nights, sharing may be required. CLYC membership is not required for these classes. Life jackets are required. Ages 7-12.
Students will not need their own boat for this course. Please contact Heidi Vollmar for further info or with any questions. firstname.lastname@example.org.
